Why did her heart give a little skip? ‘OK,’ she said, ‘see you then.’ She prepared a small picnic basket with cold cuts, cheeses some fruit and two slices of sponge cake. ‘So much for not eating today’, she. ”She slugged him in the shoulder. “I wanted everybody to see us together.” She leaned over and kissed him, saying softly, “I’m really happy that we’re together. And I just wanted everyone to know it.”They tossed a coin to see who would go in first and Jane won.Apparently a lot more people had come than had actually been invited because a barely controlled chaos reigned inside the house, supposedly presided over by Suzy’s parents. Suzy’s mother was in fact heading out the door as Jane came. I felt like a deer caughtin someone's headlights. Annie started to giggle and that was all Ineeded to tell me how ridiculous I looked. That was enough to break myspell and I made a beeline for the stairs.By the time I was half way up the stairs tears were starting to crawldown my face. I knew my marriage was over I knew my life was over. Eventhough I was running up the stairs I felt like my feet were stuck inquick sand. I couldn't get to my room fast enough.The second I was in my room I tried. It was dangerous to have in a multi-purpose room. You see, when populating a circuit board it's natural to snip off the excess length of leads on the components. Those little bits of wire tend to fly amazing distances. The ends are sharp—like little chisels. One does NOT walk around barefoot near an electronics bench without getting perforated feet. Rugs and carpeting are out of the question, both to limit hiding places for the bits of sharp wire and to eliminate static charges in the winter.
