During the chapter with Rebecca we see this new dynamic being displayed in front of the character, this dynamic was represented by two women who had a meaningful relationship together and simultaneously wanted him to become a part of them. But again the main character still saw things in matters of black and white, and in his mind his presence within that relationship would only damage it. But at the same time that all this is occurring we are seeing a shift within the character where he faced.
