I have some paper work to finish up,’ Ashira asked. ‘Yeah, give me five minutes to finish something in my room and I’ll meet you in the car,’ Jake agreed. True to his word, five minutes later, Jake met Ashira in the car. They rode the fifteen minute ride to the salon in silence. ‘What do you need to do here?’ Jake asked. Ashira. I saw a flash of myself in my daughter. Maybe she wasn’t doing what I’d done, but shit, I clearly didn’t know as much about my daughter as I’d thought.What scared me was the flash of my own ruthlessness and the drive to get what I wanted no matter what in Karen’s eyes.I looked again at Billy and saw a deer caught in the headlights. It’s what I told my doctor was the reason I wanted birth control. To say he was taken back was an understatement. Yet that didn’t stop him from fucking me silly on the exam table, but that’s a story for another time. I’ve been a single gal for many years. I mean, I’ve had boyfriends and even a girlfriend or two, but I’ve yet to meet the right person to share my life with, and I’m okay with that.
