"What's the good news?" I think I scored us a hotel room." I smiled."How'd you manage that?" she asked."Connections," I replied cryptically. "It won't...be ready until about noon, but I've got enough Marriott points to get bumped to the top of the list for the hotel here." I don't suppose you want to try and drive home?" Melanie asked, her voice hopeful."Not really," I frowned. "They're not used to getting so much snow this far south. It's six hours home under sunny conditions. Never mind this. The Indians had fairly sturdy, although small, cabins.The first day was spent in setting up. As George had said, the air was warm around them. They had a heater for their tent but didn’t seem to need it. The outhouse was colder, and they hadn’t brought a heater for it.They had brought a sleeping bag and a folding cot for each of them. For some reason, George had set these up more than a yard apart. She hadn’t come north of the Arctic Circle to sleep across the room from her husband. She moved. I went by her side. She asked me to mount on the table and stand on four legs. I looked at her with a questioning face. She gave an assuring look. It gave me a feeling that I don’t have to think at all and just go by as she says. So I took my steps on the bench first, and then mounted on the table on my four legs. I never thought anything about the whole process. Just did it as if I am hypnotized. I didn’t even try to think what would be the next action. All I was feeling then was excitement. My mind raced to find something to compare it with, but failed. It was a creature, something that lived I was certain. It was about sixty or seventy meters long, it had elements of what a dragon might have looked like, but it had also humanoid elements, leathery wings that seemed to be on fire. Fire with flames were impossible in the vacuum of space, yet there was one creature in my cultures mythical lore that would have looked much like whatever it was that floated out there, Sutr, the Fire.
