Men and women were raising signs with numbers identifying who was bidding on the girl. To my amazement, bidding went to $2,500 and the auctioneer declared, "SOLD" to number 23.The girl was ushered down and toward the man with number 23, as the next girl was highlighted on the pedestal, and the auctioneer began his chanting again. I looked back to the man with bewilderment.
