Her house was exactly like mine. And our pools were literally like the public pools. We had a diving board, tons of lounge chairs and tables with chai...s all over the place. We had the huge stereo system with speakers in the columns and randomly placed around. There was a huge open space between the house and the pool to serve as a dance floor.We set up the balloons, streamers, etc. that were necessary for a party, and then sat down at one of the tables. We split a can of Diet Coke, and went. We came back to the airport and looked it over carefully from a height and then low and slow. The runway wasn't perfect but looked better than those where we had practiced. We took a guess at the wind and landed without incident. We then moved over to the hanger area and, as was our habit, stopped with a good hundred feet or so between us and anything else. While it left us exposed, it forced anyone coming to us to be in the open. We cut the engine and opened the doors and listened. There was. Why?" It was around eight that he left the family room announcing that he was tired and headed to bed. Jerry cringed looking through the kitchen window at the back yard; it was so mucky, he couldn't make much out. Then, a mud-and-dung-encrusted ghost of a wolfdog raised her head from the muddy yard, and looked at him with her blue eyes.Something within that barely-living creature reached into Jerry's own eyes and froze his heart ... he'd seen worse; several times had he arrived at a scene and found dogs neglected to death. Jerry barely reacted to such scenes, somewhat bothering his fellow.
