I settled for that and kept my eyes shut for awhile and remained still, but despite my efforts to remain conscious I know that I blacked out at least ... few more times. When my sight had improved to merely only having triple vision, I risked taking a long look around at my surroundings. The pain wasnearly unbearable, but I got the good look I needed to evaluate my situation. Allison was kneeling again in the same tranced out position she was in when I had first entered. ‘M’ seemed to be taking. The dance ended and she still didn’t show up. Next dance the same thing happened except she didn’t wave this time. She had her head lying on the man’s shoulder. This went on until the band took a break. I thought she would come over now but I was wrong. I saw her and some other women head to the restrooms. The band had started back when I saw them come out. She went up to a man and started to dance. The waitress came by and asked where my date was and did I need more drinks. I told her no but. We had always attended First Baptist and Daddy commented to Mama that he didn't know what a forty-something Baptist could do with a Methodist -- much less a nineteen-year-old Methodist that was a Smith. Mama gave him one of her looks and told him to hush such talk in front of the children.Children? Heck we were almost as old as the bride!The thing with Mama and her sister, my Aunt Eleanor, was that Bob get married and not to Pauline Jolene Johnson who he'd been dating off and on since. The other two she came straight to my apartment and never let her parents know she was in town.I took up bowling to give me something to do on Wednesdays and I started taking evening classes at the community college. I was happy with my job, but the longer I was there the more I saw that if I wanted to move up in the company I was going to need more than just being technically proficient. I started taking business classes and I was even thinking of going all the way and getting an Associate's.
