Ruth had challenged him aboutBeth's disease, and practically ordered him to restore the medicine, andeven take her to a hospital! He felt a bit guilty about accusing nine-year-old Ruth, a girl Beth's age, of mental malpractice. The boys dropped wearily to rest as he left. As soon as he was clear of them he started to run. He circled wide around them and examined the trail. There were two additional tracks on top of theirs. He moved quietly up the trail watching for danger.When he was close to the boys he saw two scouts watching them. They were crouched behind a tree. When the arrow struck the tree beside them they froze, slowly lifting their open hands. As they slowly turned to face Fighting Hawk his arrow stood. "Jennifer cried on her mother's shoulder. "I've made a horrible mistake, Mom. I should have told Dave I wanted to be with him but I didn't want to hurt Mark. I thought I loved Mark but now I know I was definitely wrong. I was such a moron. Mark is history; I can't think about ever going back with him. How will I ever get Dave back?"Heather soothed her daughter. "I know Dave and I know he loves you. Don't worry; you'll be back in his arms where you belong, someday soon."Jennifer tried to think. He got up and helped her and she said thanks and kissed him on the lips. it was a little long for a friendly kiss but I figured she knew what she was doing. She sat real close to Jim and put her arm around him and said I didn't know any of my cousins were so cute. he grinned and blushed and she kissed him a little longer then. I figured I would do the drunk routine and just kind of passed out on the bench. She leaned in and kissed him a lot longer now and slipped him some tongue. Jim was right.
