Matt said "Show 'em." and I laid my hand down in front of me. Both boys groaned, and I saw that Matt had three fours, while Aaron had three fives. Mat... didn't say a word as he pulled his socks off, while I just sat there on the bed and snickered.Aaron dealt, and I was in deep shit. No wild card, and no face card either. And I didn't get anything to even come close to at least have a chance of not being the worse hand. Laying the cards down, I was proven correct, as I frowned and pulled my calf. And here she was, standing in his office with the intention of talking him into letting her play a part in his investigation. She had to be a masochist. There wasn’t any other reason for her to want to put herself through the tangled emotions working with him was destined to produce. She cleared her throat, cursing her sudden overwhelming case of dry mouth. ‘Detective Saint…’ she started. ‘Nick,’ he automatically corrected, searching through the stacks of paper on his desk for a cigarette. At first he thought it might be because she was putting out but since her supervisor was a female and a little on the hefty side, he dismissed that possibility. But then he started hearing rumors from people in several departments that she was doing well. She was hired as the receptionist in the main lobby but had been promoted and was now secretary to one of the regional vice presidents. It meant a lot more money for her and she had never mentioned anything about their special “lunch” to his. It was pretty much accepted that Bill inherited his father's connections. To be perfectly honest, Bill did learn how to use his father's connections to make things happen for a lot of the high school boys wanting to get a football scholarship. I'm not expert on football, but there seems to be a lot of talent on that team. As for how I got into the act, it all started when Bill made a comment that if anybody could influence him, it would be me. It wasn't long before the young men on the team.
